Peace Portrait Four: Gandhi

Seventy-eight white French knots form the border and represent Mohandas Gandhi’s (1869–1948) core group of 78 marchers and the 1930 Salt March, a nonviolent, civil disobedience movement protesting British tax on salt in India. Leaders worldwide have been inspired by Gandhi, including Martin Luther King Jr., Wangari Maathai, and Barack Obama.
