Peace Portrait Four: Gandhi

Seventy-eight white French knots form the border and represent Mohandas Gandhi’s (1869–1948) core group of 78 marchers and the 1930 Salt March, a nonviolent, civil disobedience movement protesting British tax on salt in India. Leaders worldwide have been inspired by Gandhi, including Martin Luther King Jr., Wangari Maathai, and Barack Obama.

This work was on display in the year-long 2011 People's Gallery Exihibit at Austin City Hall and in the Texas Museum of Fiber Arts' 2010 annual juried exhibition.
